About Us

LibreLX builds open and accessible lighting tools for all. The industry runs on kit that is expensive, locked down, and difficult to repair. We would rather build the opposite. We believe in creating real practical tools that won't break the bank and make people's lives easier so they can focus more on the actual art of the craft rather than the technicalities.

You own what you buy

When you buy something from us, it is yours. If it breaks, you are free to fix it. If you want an update that hasn't been distributed yet, you can build it and flash it today. Rather not pay us at all and instead source the components to build one of our products yourself? The designs and the source are there for exactly that.

Nothing we sell should ever become e-waste because we decided to stop supporting it, or because a repair needs a part only we can supply.

Source-available, not open source

We want to be precise about this, because the words matter. Some of our work is properly open source. The DMXdbg product is source-available: you can read it, change it, and build it, but you may not sell it.

That restriction exists so a small project can keep funding itself while still handing you everything you need to own, repair, and rebuild what you bought. It restricts commercial exploitation by other companies, not you. We won't call it open source, because a non-commercial clause means it isn't, and we would rather say what we actually mean.

Questions about any of this are welcome — get in touch.
